The Bridge in Schools

Supported Partnerships

The Bridge in Schools Supported Partnerships are uniquely placed  to work with students whose emotional difficulties are affecting their ability to learn. The programme is available to the whole school, bringing a wide range of services right to the heart of the school community. Schools get the service at a 25% discount, since this part of the costs is covered by Bridge fundraising.

In these Partnerships, the Bridge provides a mental health specialist in school weekly to provide a bespoke selection of:

¨ Specialist one-to-one counselling with children and young people.

¨ Assessment reports and help with referral on

¨ Group work - weekly sessions with groups of students, exploring selective themes such as  bullying, gangs, exploring ethnicity or themes brought to groups by the students themselves.

¨ Work with teachers - we work with school staff to help develop understanding of the underlying meaning of a student’s behaviour, and the emotional factors which impact on their learning.

¨ Work with parents – we provide support for parents to enhance  understanding of their children's behaviour, and help them develop their parenting skills.

¨ Staff training and reflective practice groups—to explore specific themes, help staff identify difficulties early on and know how to respond.

¨ Specialist staff supervision—support to Pastoral Leads and pastoral support staff working in areas of child protection, special needs, and  pupil premium

¨ Support to Senior Leadership Teams in developing an effective  and integrated approach to emotional aspects of learning.

We have used the Bridge Foundation to provide one to one and small group therapeutic support for troubled and vulnerable learners.  The children they support have a wide range of complex needs including bereavement; challenging behaviour and attachment.  The staff have been extremely professional and consistent.  Alongside their work and support for children the therapists also contributed effectively to wider school life and often go out of their way to do so. They offer supervision to all staff as well as classroom observations and assessments in a supportive capacity for teachers.  Teachers often oversubscribed to these opportunities which reflects the credibility in which the therapists are held across the staff team.”
