The Bridge in Schools
The Brief Interventions Service is a service for schools who are worried about a child or young person’s emotional state and want to buy in some extra support for a brief or time-limited period.
Interventions are focused and specified (usually 6—15 sessions, though sometimes longer). Aims vary from case to case and are agreed in advance with the school.
Some recent examples are:
¨ Individual therapy sessions for a bereaved child
¨ Family sessions for a parent and young person whose relationship had got into difficulty
¨ Therapy for two siblings in foster care
¨ A mix of classroom observations, assessment sessions and consultation to school staff, for a young person with very challenging behaviour
¨ A professional assessment to support the school to access other support for a child in need.
¨ Counselling for a parent whose own life experiences were interfering in her relationship with her child
“It was really helpful - especially to support the work of the carers. She led a training session for staff that was very valuable. Overall she was excellent, very appropriate ... there were a lot of professionals involved and she was able to work well with them all ... good at making sure things organised for when she got there ... I would most certainly use the service again.”
